3 minutes read

If you're looking for an adrenaline-packed adventure in the Philippines, Kawasan Falls in Cebu is a must-visit destination. Known for its stunning turquoise waters and lush jungle surroundings, this natural wonder offers an epic canyoning experience filled with cliff jumping, swimming, and exploring breathtaking rock formations.

In this post, we’ll take you through an exciting day of canyoning, providing tips on costs, logistics, and what to expect from this thrilling activity.

Booking the Canyoning Tour

We booked our tour at Amigo’s Dive Center for 1,200 pesos per person, which included:

  • Gear rental (helmet, life vest, and water shoes)
  • Lunch
  • Transportation to and from our hostel in Moalboal

Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak season, to secure your spot on this popular adventure.

Morning Preparations & Breakfast

Before heading out, we enjoyed a traditional Filipino breakfast called bacon silog—a delicious combination of fried rice, eggs, and crispy bacon. To save on costs, we grabbed our drinks from a nearby convenience store, where a 1.5L bottle of water cost 40 pesos, and a Coke was 55 pesos.

Total breakfast cost: 615 pesos (15 CAD).

The Journey to Kawasan Falls

Our adventure started with a 9 AM pickup from our hostel. We were joined by friends we met during a diving course, making the experience even more memorable. After a scenic drive, we arrived at the starting point, where our guides briefed us on safety measures and the plan for the day.

The Adventure Begins: Canyoning & Zip Lining

Before the canyoning trek, we had the option to take a zip line (700 pesos per person) to the starting point—an exhilarating experience that gave us an incredible aerial view of the jungle. It turned out to be an unexpected highlight of the trip!

“I felt like I was flying! It wasn’t even scary—just pure excitement.”

For those who prefer hiking, there’s a 30-45 minute trail leading to the first jumping spot.

The Thrills of Canyoning

Cliff Jumps & Natural Water Slides

The canyoning experience featured a series of cliff jumps ranging from 4 meters to 10 meters high. Each jump offered a mix of excitement and fear, but the stunning clear blue water below made it all worth it.

Some key moments:

  • First Jump (4m): A warm-up jump that gave us a taste of what was to come.
  • Second Jump (7m): A bit more intimidating, but absolutely thrilling.
  • Biggest Jump (10m): The most challenging and rewarding moment of the adventure.
  • Natural Water Slides: Unexpectedly more terrifying than jumping, as you don’t always know where you’ll land!
“I thought the jumps were scary, but the slides were even more nerve-wracking! You never know if you’ll go upside down or land smoothly.”

The Beauty of Kawasan Falls

Beyond the adrenaline rush, the scenic beauty of Kawasan Falls was breathtaking. The cool, turquoise pools provided the perfect reward after each jump, and the surrounding jungle created an almost magical atmosphere.

Safety & Things to Keep in Mind

While canyoning is an incredible experience, it does come with risks. We witnessed a few minor injuries, so it’s important to:

  • Wear good grip water shoes (some tours provide Crocs, but actual water shoes are better).
  • Be aware of slippery rocks and sharp edges.
  • Follow guide instructions carefully to avoid accidents.
  • Know your limits—some jumps can be bypassed if they feel too extreme.

Wrapping Up & Final Thoughts

After hours of adventure, we wrapped up with a 15-20 minute hike back, followed by a much-needed lunch. While the food provided was light, we made sure to grab a bigger dinner upon returning to our hostel.

Would we recommend canyoning at Kawasan Falls? Absolutely!

If you’re visiting Moalboal or Cebu, this is a must-do adventure that offers the perfect combination of thrill and natural beauty. Just be prepared for a workout and an unforgettable experience!
